I love these large freezer bags. Not going to buy any other freezer bag anymore. Will be happy to see them in more stores.

  2. Carlos

Awesome Quality. They are thick and sometimes I reuse them. They are back at the compost.

  3. Scot L.

I’ve been using these for meat in the freezer & it’s even better than plastic. When I take them out and they defrost & I am left with the gross meat juice in the bottom, I can just toss the whole thing in the compost rather than trying to clean it out.

  4. Maui

Nice strong zip top storage bag. I’m always use zip top storage bags and I like these because they’re biodegradable and better for the planet. The zip top seems pretty strong and sturdy and isn’t flimsy at all like some other brands. This pack of 50 bags seems like a pretty average value compared to similar products on the market. These bags are opaque and not clear, and I didn’t like that aspect. Also there’s no country of origin listed on the packaging and I would have liked to know where these are made. Overall it’s a solid zip top storage bag and I would recommend it.

They do a great job keeping food odors inside. I was curious where these were made. I looked up the company and it’s in Canada though I can’t say the bags are infact made there. The 15 count Refresh Packaging Gallon Freezer Bags in adition to being not made of plastic in fact don’t even feel like a typical bag. They have a nice soft feel to them and I actually liked that. They feel relatively thick or thick enough to be sturdy. The zipper is a little tricky or maybe flimsy but it works. I think I’m just used to a thicker heavier feeling zipper and in fact buy bags normally that have a double zipper.

I don’t have any issues with them not being clear and see through because I put my package of bacon in one and I could tell easily enough what it was. It wasn’t like I needed to rely on the label. I honestly don’t think most will have THAT big of a problem knowing what’s inside and it’s more a knit picky thing really. I was impressed how well they keep the smell of what’s in the bag, in the bag. I’ve had the package of bacon in it for a few days and have pulled it from the fridge and did a sniff test and I can’t smell the bacon through it at all.

I’m anticipating that being it’s the case with not letting odors through that it’s thick enough to provide good protection using them in the freezer as well. I don’t put liquid foods in ziplock bags so it’s not something I could report back on as far as how well they maintain their integrity and not leak.

I guess in relation to value I’m a little on the fence with. Being they are resusable and I do wash and resuse my freezer bags or at least large size storage bags, I could see myself switching over to these. That is as long as they hold up for reusing them more than once. I like the product the company has produced and honestly I wish all food storage companies would just eliminate plastic bags and go with something similar to these.

Good product and good for the earth! These bags are great – they perform well for my day to day needs, and I love that they are compostable. I hate that so often a plastic bag is the best tool for the job … but plastics are terrible for the enviroment and in some cases, terrible for people! These bags make it so much easier for me to compost – I live in an appartment and do not have the ability to compost at home … but instead of tossing these bags when I am done using them, I can keep them for kitchen scraps and other compostables instead of throwing them away, then just drop them off at the community garden compost when I have a full bag! I feel so much better about using these bags vs. the plastic versions – they are healthier for my family and the earth and they make it possible for me to contribule to community compost – perfect win!

  7. Jennifer

Good environmental alternative to plastic storage bags. There are so many reasons to lessen our use of plastics: they are made from petroleum, a finite resource that pollutes the air; they often end up in the oceans, kill wildlife, or end up in landfills an outlive us all. Recycling can help, but so much that we put in the recycling bin is just thrown in the trash when it gets to the recycling center. So I try to use less and less plastic. These freezer bags are a great alternative to regular plastic freezer bags. They seal easily and well. They have kept opened food fresh and free from freezer burn. I also love the feel of these bags, they are softer than plastic bags. And after being in the freezer for a while, plastic bags are so cold, and sometimes hurt my fingers, these don’t feel as cold, even though the food inside is frozen. They’re much easier to handle out of the freezer than plastic freezer bags are. And they’re compostable! I haven’t started composting yet, but knowing they will compost when thrown out feels so much better. Like traditional plastic freezer bags, these can be reused. I have not tried washing them out before reusing, so I don’t know how they’ll hold up to washing. I highly recommend these bags to replace plastic freezer bags.

These Refresh Packaging Freezer Bags came as a package of two boxes with each contain fifteen bags. These work just like any other zip lock bag but they supposedly break down quicker than regular freezer bags. I can’t say if they really do, only time will tell on that. I’m using these as I would regular freezer bags. They don’t leak when filled with water and sealed. But I must remember that these will eventually start breaking down. I may take one of these bags in the future and put it in my compost bin outside and see how long it takes to completely break down.

  9. kinase

These feel like your typical compostable bag, and are definitely sturdy. I appreciate the dimensions of these gallon size bags – they’re a little wider than the ones made by the big brands.

However, the big flaw is that the zipper is nearly impossible to close properly. I’m honestly not sure if I was ever really able to do so. I think if you’re going to use these for infrequently accessed items you’ll be okay, since you can focus and take your time to really make sure it’s closed, but these are not good products for something that you’ll want to open every day.

I hope they take another try at making a workable zipper, because these definitely have promise.

  10. Amazon.com Customer

Thicker than I thought they would be. I haven’t ever used compostable zip storage bags. These gallon sized bags from Refresh are thicker than I anticipated, and it took quite a bit of pressure to poke my finger through the bag. So quite comparable to 100% plastic bags.
These are not ‘zip’ bags, where you have a tab to pull across the top to close, just a pressure closing system like many other bags. When the bag is closed it is quite air tight.
My box of bags were manufactured in April 2023, but I don’t think this will affect their durability or usability in the future since they haven’t been exposed to any liquid.
The nice thing about these bags it is acceptable to place this in my city’s compost waste for collection.

  11. ABCB

Nice Bags! These bags are nice! They are quite thick and don’t tear easy. The clasp goes together really easy, I kept thinking it wasn’t closing but it was just so easy to close I didn’t notice!! And it does stay closed well. I personally don’t love that they’re opaque but it doesn’t render them unusable or anything, just different. Despite being compostable, I am impressed with the quality and love that they’re at least a little better for the environment!

  12. Nurse M

Excellent! Large size freezer bags that are compostable! Thick freezer bags that are east to seal. Arrived quickly and nicely packaged. It is fairly pricey for two boxes, but has such good “green” aspects to it!

  13. Steve J

These Refresh Packaging Zip Top Bags are 100% compostable and work just as well as the regular plastic bags. They’re made from corn-based organic materials and will break down over time in your compost bin just like food scraps do.

The bags I received were manufactured on 04/25/2023 and they’re typically good for about 18-24 months before they start to break down on their own.

This 2 Pack contains 30 Large sized bags (15 bags per package) that measure 27 cm x 30 cm (10.5″ x 11.8″). The bags have a large writable area and a single, heavy duty zipper that seals tightly and securely. They can be used for packing fresh produce, freezing meat, fish, poultry, and fruit, or for anything else that you would put in a plastic freezer bag.

These bags are an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional plastic bags, but they are a little more expensive, so I’m giving them a recommended and 4 out of 5 stars.

  14. Gladiator

These seem like nice freezer bags. They seal fine. They are not clear but thats not a big deal to me. Hopefully they will do the job once in the freezer.

  15. Amazon.ca Customer

This is a two pack of large zipper bags. Although they are made of compostable material, they feel pretty similar to plastic bags. I have washed them a few times and they can be reused, just like the plastic ones. The major differences (compared to the most popular bags) are:
    – They are translucent (as opposed to clear), so you can’t inside that easily, although you can write on them.
    – There is one zipper (as opposed to double zippers), so there isn’t a backup if one zipper fails.
    – They are a bit more difficult to tell that the zipper has closed completely. I find I have to test that it’s firmly closed by slightly trying to open them, as I can’t tell if I’ve closed it. The brand name ones are easier to tell by the feeling alone while you’re zipping them, as you can feel the “hills” and “valleys” of the two sections merging together.

So while they are compostable and the single zipper seems to keep things secured, the brand name ones are a bit more easier to use. It is up to you to decide if that is worth it.

  16. Dragonfly7

Sturdy Eco friendly Ziplock bag. First thing is I was surprised at how sturdy these bags are. They are opaque in color and have a different feel from plastic bags. The zipper lock is easy to use and stays closed. I like the fact that these are biodegradable but like most of eco friendly items they do cost more than cheap plastic. If these are on sale I would buy them again.

  17. Confirmed Amazon Customer

Great large compostable bags. I usually wash my bags to reuse them, however I admit that in some cases there is food that is difficult to remove. So I would use these bags in these cases and I would feel less guilty about throwing them away since they are compostable.

They are sturdy, durable and see-through so even if they are compostable, it will be easy to reuse them 2-3 times before throwing them away.

I was surprised to see how effective the closure is and how well it contains the food.

This is a good ecological choice.

  18. Wayne

Nice two pack of freezer bags. I have to admit this is a nice set of freezer bags. Very large in size, and durable allowing the reuse of the bags depending what was stored in them before. Not sure if I would want to reuse them if they had previous stored some form of meat. Supposedly these bags are also compostable, but I do not have access to a compost bin in my apartment and there are no commercial composting bins in my rural community. Overall, since this comes in a two pack of 15 bags it is actually worth it in my opinion. The bags can be reused in the freezer depending what was previously stored in them and that is handy increasing their overall value and convenience. I recommend these for use.

  19. Cecilia

This is a great freezer bag that is easily recyclable that breaks down on its own. The size of 11.5in x 10.5in. Is comparable to a “large” sized freezer bags of any brand. They are a single zippered freezer bag , white it colour. With 2 boxes of 15 bags , so 30 total at approximately $30CAD at the time of ordering. While comparing them to most zipper bags that are not compostable they are quite expensive for me. Great bags helping the earth is always the way to go for me.

  20. Xal

These Refresh packaging freezer bags came with 2 boxes of 15 bags in each box. They are a good size for freezing things.

These bags are compostable which is a great alternative to using plastic bags. They have a good reusable zipper seal and are able to be written on so you know what is in the bags.

The price is a bit higher than other bags that I have purchased but since these are compostable I expected that.

  21. Joan

Very good quality. The Refresh Packaging Freezer Bags are a great to store food in the freezer. They are quite large in size, which means they can hold a lot of food, from leftovers to bulk items you want to keep fresh. You get 15 pouches in each box, and this comes as a 2-pack, so you’re well-stocked with 30 bags right off the bat.

The ziplock seal is really strong and resealable, so you can open and close the bags as many times as you need without worrying about leaks or freezer burn.

  22. S

Eco friendly. I love that these freezer bags are composable, making them more environmentally friendly than most other brands of freezer bags. The bags are durable and do not leak. I’ve stored liquids (e.g., soup) in these bags without any issues. The zipper on these bags is strong and there is a white area on the front of each bag where you can write what’s inside and the date that you stored it in the freezer. The bags are large enough to contain a variety of food, including meat and produce.

  23. Tjitske

great idea. These are good bags. They’re pretty thick and work well. They are not completely clear, but I didn’t expect them to be since they are not actually plastic. I really like that they’re compostable because I like the idea of reusable silicone bags but strongly dislike them in practice. This lets me use a disposable bag guilt-free. They are quite pricey for how many you get though.

  24. Mirn

As expected from compostable bags, these are more expensive than the usual plastic ones, but that’s usually the case so I’m not surprised. I will say you don’t get a lot of bags in the pack though so I’d be wary of that. With that said, I like these ones, they’re durable and have lasted through everything I’ve put them through so far. Even through storage in the fridge and freezer, I haven’t had any leaks or such when defrosting.

I also do like that the zip seal on these bags are smooth. Some bags have rough seals that anger me since they’re hard to attach together, but that isn’t the case here.

If you can afford it, these are solid bag options that can be composted. You get 30 of them in this pack with 15 in each box, so you certainly can make them last for a while as long as you’re not burning through them.

  25. Sewist and the Geek

Good value Refresh Packaging Freezer Bags, that are eco-friendly, compostable and rather strong to boot!

Think the size of these bags are perfect for me, usually I am freezing value packs of chicken breast or salmon when they go on sale – enough for 3 people each time. The sizing here works for 3 boneless chicken breasts or about 500g of salmon.

The zipper closure is quite secure and the bags are easy to add a label to with information on what is inside. True, they are not see-thru like non-compostable bags, but that was to be expected.

  26. Ryan R

The bags themselves are decent, but I wouldn’t go as far as saying that they’re as secure as the brand name bags that aren’t eco-friendly. They seem to hold up pretty well, but I wouldn’t quite trust them with things that could easily leak.

The frosted design is a bit different than the typical clear nature of bags. Not a make or break it thing though.

The bags themselves are a bit on the small side and are also quite pricey compared to the brand name option, so not a great value unless you like paying for the eco-friendly option.

  27. Kari31

They keep the food good for longer time. First time I ordered and I’m very pleased. I usually prepare food in advance, and the size of these zips is excellent since I can store a larger quantity of food, and last good for more time. Great product.

  28. L

These gallon zip bags are nice to have on hand. With being compostable I’m not sure that they would hold up well for freezing. I like them for cheese, road trip snacks, and things like that. At about $1 each they are on the pricey side.

  29. Confirmed Amazon Customer

Strong and durable freezer bags. I recently tried this Freezer Bags and I am impressed by their quality and durability. These 100% certified Ziplock bags are perfect for storing frozen food and snacks, keeping them fresh for longer periods. The large size of the bags allows me to store a variety of items without any issues. With 15 bags per box and 2 boxes in a pack, I have an ample supply to use for all my freezing needs. I recommend these Freezer Bags for anyone looking for reliable and convenient storage solutions.

  30. HouseOfBoys

Sturdy, durable, and seals well. A+

  31. Case, from Space

If you’re looking to reduce your personal impact on the environment, these bags will help rid you of single use plastic storage bags. While the environmental benefits are a welcome feature, the hit to your bank account will leave you unable to purchase the solar panels for your roof! They do seem to work as well or better (at least short term) as their plastic counterparts. So, great bags … at a premium price!

  32. Abracastabya

Good bags. These are good freezer bags, but they’re quite costly so I find myself being more sparing with using them. I like that they’re safer for the environment and I feel less guilty about using it as opposed to the single use plastics. I’m not sure if I would order them again, based mostly off the higher price point.

  33. N T

Sustainable Ziploc Bags, Translucent not Transparent. I am all for moving towards sustainable Ziploc bags, but I must be able to identify what is in the bag. As these bags are translucent and not transparent, identifying what is in the bag is difficult. An external label on the bag must be made in order to identify the contents in the bag.

  34. Ross A.

Compostable labeling has to be bigger – I would have liked the bag to be clearer.
